Kindergarten Technology infused lesson

One of my technology infused lessons I have done uses the App Fotobabble. We had been learning about different shapes and the shape attributes. To assess the students knowledge about the shapes they had to create a "Shape Monster" and then write about the shape attributes. As part of the assessment the students then used the iPad to take a picture of their shape monster and upload it into Fotobabble. Once the image was the students then recorded themselves describing their shape monster with it attributes.

I felt the lesson went well the only issue that really needs to be tweaked is that the students need assistance navigating the App. I was able to work with small groups at a time at the teacher table. So as the students finished paper part of the project they would bring them to the teacher table to do the technology part of the assignment. Next time I will have the students turn in projects and as the week progresses pull small groups to work at teacher while the class works in math centers. Having multiple iPads available would be helpful also.

In the future I will link the Fotobabble to a QR code so that parents could scan the code to see their child's work at either Open house night or parent/teacher conferences.

What do think could help make this lesson better?  I would love your input!

  1. What a great lesson! I like how students were given a choice of what shapes to use for their shape monster. I always try to tell teachers to make the technology aspect happen at the teacher table so you can lend assistance in a manageable way and assess, I am so glad this worked for you!

A way to extend this lesson would be to to pull the shape monsters on the SmartBoard and call on students to explain what shape they see and justify their answers and then play the Fotobabble for them to see if they are correct. OR if you did QR codes you could even make this a student center and have manipulatives in front of them and have students select the manipulative(s) that they see in the monsters.
