December 7-11 our week at a glance...

Good Evening Families; here is a glance at what we will be learning this week: ELA: We are continuing to study poetry this week! This week we will focus on reading and comprehending different types of poems. Students will make inferences (using what they already know, combined with what they see/read), before, during and after poems. We will look at words that rhyme, to help the poem flow together too! This week we are also talking about the beat we hear, when reciting poems. During our Word Study, we are learning to group words, with the same beginning sounds together. We will review procedures to make closed syllable words, cvc words, using a,e,i,o, and u. For example, bat, ten, pin, log, run. ***Ask your child to write and sound out any type of closed syllable, cvc words, and they can write it, sound-it-out and then read it to you! During Shared Reading, The class and I read together!! I read challenging words and then, the kids read familiar sight words and words that they are able to sound-out easily!! We do the same thing, during our Interactive Writing, but instead of reading, we write together!! Writing: This week students will be writing poems about family and friends! Students will also be writing sensory poems; they will use their 5 senses to write a poem. For example, if they decide to write a poem about popcorn, they will describe how it tastes, smells, looks, feels and how it sounds when either cooking or when they are eating it! Students will be encouraged to use familiar sight words, from our word wall, when writing! Math: During math this week, we will be reviewing numbers 0-20. Students will practice recognizing these numbers, building them and writing them. We will also be comparing 2 numbers at time, and students will be able to determine which number is more, and which one is less. Social Studies: We will be talking about customs and traditions for winter holidays that we celebrate, here and in other countries too! Science: Students will learn about the seasons as an event that has a repeating pattern. They will attain the Key Understandings that weather changes over the seasons, and there are four seasons that cycle through the year.
